If you are going to college, then you might want to consider joining a fraternal club that can help you make friends and give you access to services like housing, study aids, and support. If your only experience with fraternal clubs has been what you have seen on TV, then you might not have an accurate idea of what they support. Many frats at a college or university are male clubs that have mottos supporting ethics, education, and religion. You might also choose to join an association where your brothers share your religion, ethnicity, or politics. The point of the frat organization is to give students an order and brotherhood that supports them. They often have national associations with other colleges so that you can make connections with your new brothers all over the country. Some of them are also family traditions. Fathers and sons may belong to the same association and therefore get to enjoy secret handshakes, slogans, songs, and mottos that are part of the unions. When you contact the fraternal associations at a college, you should ask them if they have a house on campus where brothers can live and lounge. Ask them if they have a bond with a sorority on campus too. This can make it easier for young men to meet women when they go to college. It can also give them more influence in the community because they can work in conjunction with the sorority.
